  Q&A – Madera & Profile – Proudly made in the U.S. of A.

We have been asked all sorts of questions over the years: How is Madera different than Profile? Why does production take a bit longer? How can you do so many prototypes? What makes your stuff so different from other? And more...

Many of them come right down to the answer to the following question. Take a look...

Q and A: Is Madera made in the USA?

Yes.

Madera componentry is made here in our factory on the same machines as Profile. It has the same craftsmanship, engineering, and design. The difference between Madera is solely aesthetic. Because we cut down on the Madera’s intricacies through production, the product line is less expensive for us to make. Therefore, Madera retails for much less than Profile. Here’s an example of the difference through production of hub shells.

The Madera V-2 rear hub shell takes approximately 4 minutes to make.

Although the Profile mini hub shell is made on the same machine, the scalloping (design in the center of the shell) demands more machine time. The Profile Mini hub takes approximately 6 minutes to make. More time in the machine equals more cost for us to make.

Madera cranks, spline drive sprockets, and stems all fall into the same idea. More simplistic design work with absolutely no sacrifice in quality.

  NEW GRASSROOTS GUY!

Coming straight out of the Midwest and repping the gully factory, CJ West is a young dude with a lot of talent. Josh Eilken knows CJ pretty well and made sure that Madera helped him out. We are stoked to be working with CJ and are excited to see what kind of stuff he may be working on. Until then, check out some cool pics he sent through.

  Sean Morr Update

Just talked to Sean Morr and he is riding hard in the beautiful Cali weather. His recent move to Long Beach will be a great chance for him to ride a ton more as well. Pretty sure he will be the next one to drop a Madera exclusive edit and he is working on it as we speak. Here is what he had to say:

"Yo whats up guys? Hope everyone is having a good time. Just been out here getting used to long beach and riding around all the amazing stuff this town has to offer.

This is the new plaza set to open up in the near future. We hit the streets a bit earlier to get in and got a nice little session before we got the boot. Good thing its long beach and they usually have more important things to worry about than people on bikes. Keep you guys posted. Later"

Limited, Madera/Native collaboration, hand-made leather seats.

James came up to the shop a couple weeks ago, as a surprise, he brought us one of these hand-made, leather Madera seats. We were so stoked on the finished seat, we asked him to do a couple more for us. After much time, care, and effort on James’s part, they were delivered yesterday.

Here are the specs:

  • -Reconditioned from the Madera “Cruiser” (Fat) pivotal seat.
  • -Deer hide external material, with embossed Madera "M."
  • -Available in tan, red, and black.

Thanks to James Covington for years of support!

  Shop Sneak Peek

Check out what the Madera Fall Red hubs look like mid-production. Here they are after being machined and then anodized. Next step, back to the machines to bore them out precisely to make sure the bearings fit in perfectly.

  Tattoo Gallery

Madera's Mike Hinkens was featured in an ESPN article about BMXers with Tattoos. Go check him and some other cool dudes out at Cody York’s section.
